Unimaginatively titled post-holiday season post

The holidays came and went, and good times were had. Christmas went by at my dad’s, with me having brought my 360, Rock Band 3, and a collection of plastic instruments along. Traditional Finnish christmasy foods were put on the plate along with less traditional ones. My sister, who is on a student exchange in Paris, also came back home for the break. As for presents, well… I’ll get back to that.

New year, and most of the week before it (Wednesday to Sunday if you must know) was spent at friend Mozzie’s place, having a good old big LAN party. There were ten friends attending in total,  though not everyone at once (friend peacemake’s wife dragged him off on Friday). The game catalog played consisted mostly of shooters of the zombie and warfare-with-vehicles varieties, with a dash of Civilization V. I also spent the others’ sleeping hours poking about in the pre-New Year beta event for Rift, an up and coming muhmorpeger (looked good, very polished, but not enough for me to want more. probably), and managed to lure friend Ixtor into checking out Everquest 2’s free-to-play version (it feels fresh to me even after three or so years of WoW). Roughly 50 cans of caffeine drinks were consumed in total by all of us. Good times indeed.

This post-New Year week has been a lazy one. Wife-unit working evenings, me sitting at home playing games. And preparing for that which was the Christmas present received early: an most-expenses-paid one-week trip to New York City. Our plane leaves tomorrow morning at 7 am. Current plans include the usual sights, plus some musical theater (Avenue Q and Chicago, probably) and who knows what else. I may or may not blather about it during the course of it, it all depends.
